The first convertible Seat celebrates 50 years
In 1969, half a century ago, Seat was conquering the Spanish market in all ways, incorporating continuous innovations. The popular 600 had already yielded the favor of the public to the 850 range, more capable, modern and versatile. It was not in vain that they composed a saloon with two or four doors, a beautiful and sporty coupe and - since 1969 - an exclusive convertible. This was called 850 Sport, although it was twin to the FIAT 850 Spider, but the Italians - who were brothers, but not cousins - did not want the same name to be used. It did not matter, because the generations have known him as 850 Spider and nobody remembered about "Sport".
However, that name meant something more important: that it used a new engine of greater displacement, with 903 cc instead of 843, which raised the power from 47 to 52 DIN hp, which gave wings to this small two-seater of 730 Kg. weight. An engine that was also used in the evolution of the 850 Coupé the following year and that was obviously called "Sport Coupé". The ClassicAuto show in Madrid will pay tribute to these two 850 specials in their 50th anniversary together with several specialized clubs, which will show magnificent specimens on their stand.
