Josep Pàmies, A Sweet Revolution

Last week, I read several articles published in some newspapers from Spain. They explained that Josep Pàmies, a Catalan farmer from Lleida, had been reported to foster sodium chlorite as a remedy for coronavirus. I was surprised as a few months ago, this same farmer, had been fined 600,000€ for promoting this banned chemical as an alternative treatment for diseases such as Ebola, malaria or leukemia. Today I will present you a new example of what I call The Big Social Issue; money and capitalism, with the case of this farmer who seeks to promote the use and regulation of alternative medicinal plants. Here we go.

Alternative medicines to those marketed by large pharmaceutical companies have always existed, when there were no pharmacists people were cured as they could. But right now, these big companies are dominating the market with the help of govers and various international organizations. This is why when someone tries to propose something out of the ordinary, it is silenced or punished with great fines.

And this has been the case with the farmer Josep Pàmies and his association Dolça Revolució. For the past 5 years, this farmer-led association has disseminated knowledge about medicinal plants and their properties with a number of books and talks. Everything was fine until the media and doctors appeared, criticizing and censuring what Mr Pamies said and did. Within we can say that what they have done is correct since various claims made by the farmer are not scientifically proven. But on the other hand there are several cases which state that it work. Also, people responsible for being able to scientifically prove this, do not want to do. The reason is that it is expensive to do and then when there will be a prove, the pharmacy business will be absorbed as the medicinal plants cost much less than the conventional medicines or even a zero cost since they are in forests. For the moment, there is no solution to the problem, on the one hand the association will continue to give talks and export knowledge and the other will continue to censor it.

I have been able to visit the plantations that the association has in Balguer and the work they do there, and what I can say is that I cannot understand how there are people who may be against what they do. The same thing always happens, the damn money and the repercussions that come with it.
